Join our Summer Internship Programme, and you’ll get high-quality training working with a government department and experience what it feels like to work for the Civil Service. With 6 to 8 weeks of paid work experience, it’s a great way to prepare for a place on one of our Fast Stream graduate schemes – which could lead to many different Civil Service career paths.

What will you experience on the Summer Internship Programme?
With a work placement in a government department, you’ll get an insight into the broad range of opportunities available across the Civil Service. You could be:
• Conducting research.
• Providing project support.
• Helping to create policy documents.
• Shadowing senior civil servants.
• Attending meetings with senior advisors on major issues. We’ll support your development with:
• Skills sessions, and other events featuring inspirational speakers.
•An allocated Fast Stream buddy and a scheme manager to support and oversee you.
•Access to ‘Fast Pass’ which potentially allows you to be fast-tracked to the final stages of the Fast Stream selection process. A minimum of 6 weeks is required in your placement for you to be considered for a ‘Fast Pass’.

What we look for in you:
• A real interest in pursuing a Civil Service career.
•  Motivation to make an impact on major policy issues and improve public service delivery.
•  Team-working skills, a creative approach and flexibility.
•  Ability to work with people at varying levels of ability and responsibility.

You can apply if:
•  You’re in your final 2 years at university with an expected (or awarded) 2:2 or higher degree, in any subject. We’re particularly interested in hearing from people with STEM subject backgrounds.
